Blinking

How many times does a person blink per day/hour/minute/second?

This could be represented in the form of a statistic and calculated to the length of our performance or we thought we could record an eye blinking for 30 minutes and play it alongside our performance. Because then, a statistic wouldn’t be needed as the evidence is being shown to you.

We recorded my eye blinking for about 30 seconds just for initial thoughts.

I would personally say that this wasn’t an accurate recording of my blinking. Iinitially I was conscious of being recorded and so therefore I felt like I was blinking more than necessary and as this was being recorded in the LPAC cafe I was distracted near the end.

Costume = Identity

With recent conversations revolving around costume ideas, I thought it would be prudent to create a post where we can share our ideas.

We spoke recently about where we would be performing the piece and Studio 2 within the LPAC is looking like the ideal location. A point was made about maybe writing the statistics onto the wall in the studio somehow.

My thoughts are, if we could have black paper on the wall we could write the statistics onto the wall as we go along. I thought this could then translate onto our clothing, where we could be in black also and write the statistics onto each other in chalk. After a discussion with Charlotte about this, we realised that chalk may not show up too well so thoughts moved onto marker pen (one that will come off after a wash!!). So my thoughts then evolved onto the wall maybe being covered in white paper and us being dressed in neutral coloured clothing (initial thoughts being a vest and shorts) as this will strip us of an identity and essentially make us a blank slate for performing.

Burning Calories

After considering Marc’s proposal regarding burning calories, we set out to try another experiment, (similar to that of the balloons) and filmed Marc Skipping for 5 minutes. We worked out how long it would take to ‘burn off’ the calories from an energy drink, this equated to 11 minutes in total. However for the purposes of this experiment, we reduced the time to five minutes. It was suggested that performing this action for 5 minutes burned the amount of calories that would be eaten when having a quarter of a McDonald’s Big Mac burger.
